lower frequencies on 555 based synth...

i have been breadboarding like crazy and making a lot of discoveries.
if i am making a simple 555 based synth circuit, how do you make a lower frequency? i tried higher resistors, which i had in stock, a 51k and a 47k...this seemed to make somewhat of a difference, but it also seemed to crash more.
advice?

Check out the 'Choosing R1, R2 and C1' section on this page:

i'll check these things out...thanks!
is there a formula (in layman's terms) for capacitance and frequency? higher capacitance=lower frequency?
