yamaha pss-590

anyone poked around in a pss-590?

i've got one to fiddle with. £1 car booty find. it's got midi, reverb and is one of the earliest sample (awm) based yamahas. born in 1990 i think.

three big chips inside are begging to be twiddled with. i'm hopeful it might become a glitchtastic machine with some sort of control of the reverb as well. if i don't fry it that is....

yeah, i thought it was cheap. but then it was from one of the house clearance car boot stalls. you never know if things will work but i've only had one dodgy buy so far (a dead dd9 drum machine). if i was smarter i'd take some batteries along with me to car boots but i'm never that organised at 8am on a sunday morning...

i also noticed the lack of info on the net for bends for the 590. could be because it's at the pricy end of cheap or maybe it wont bend.... i will find out this afternoon if i get time...

I once heard that the 790/795 made some great sounds so I imagine the 590 would be good fun too.  I have been looking for one for a while but only found it's FM predecessors.

hmmmmm, had a poke around my 590... there are actually four big chips.... three seem to do nothing or just crash the keyboard but one of them opens up a world of sonic madness. i'm loving it.  Grin

i wonder how many similar yamaha models from this era are out there? it's that early sample based sound, just after or at the end of the fm machines. they're ripe for glitching fun...

now, if only i could find controls for the built in reverb....
