heyhey, hope this is the right spot for this. been messing around with the ISD1416P Voice Recorder chip. its a pretty cool lofi voice recorder that can be hacked a little and has a few interesting bends. i need to build a clocking oscillator that will be variable +/- a few kHZ around 1 MHZ, any ideas? would a nand oscillator go this fast?

That sounds great!! I hope you come up with something good with it. I have a message recorder with a 1416 chip in it that I built from a kit, and have been thinking of turning it into a drum machine somehow. I don't know anything about the clock stuff, but these guys would on the Electro-music forum. They get right into stuff like that:

I've actually designed a sampler based on the successor to this chip, the 2560, as it's more available.
To get it to shift down, all you need to do is drop the supply voltage to the chip a little bit. A 500K pot between +v on the chip and ground should do it for ya. To get it to pitch up, you need to pitch down before recording, then pitch up for playback.
