ALESIS SR16 finally finished
« on: October 12, 2007, 01:15:55 AM »

Well, i've finally finished an Alesis SR16 and it sounds pretty good, if not quite as interesting as a lot of other circuitbent drum machine but when you consider the mind numbing tedium of an unmodified SR16 any variation is welcome. Most of it is fairly standard circuitbent drum machine stuff but it does do some really good tone and ring mod effects on the top end stuff like hi-hats and some interesting surging gated effects on reversed sounds.

Heres some demos:

wonderfully demented. a fine piece of work.

demo 4 is especially nice with its wonky melodious percussion. i'm pretty sure my neighbours enjoyed it as well.

Can I ask what you use for that black project box you use for patch bays?  E.g. part numbers or supplier would be handy.  Can't seem to find a decent box like that over here in the states.

Thats part 800-009B from www.jprelec.co.uk although i'm sure you must be able to get something similar from loads of places

yeah, the SR16 is really good for bending hi frequency stuff, most of demo 4 is ride cymbals etc.

The only annoying thing is that lots of combination bends cause crashes. Anything with more than 4 cables gets a bit risky. Unfortunatly if you removed any possible crashes you'd end up with about 5 sockets Sad
