A/V switchbox as patchbay?
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:52:39 PM »

Hey all, excellent site!  Wanted some opinions on this:  Like most people on here I love the look and "coolness" factor of patchbays on bends.  I've been looking around and the premade ones seem a little pricey to me.  I have a few super-cheapo A/V switchboxes (RCA, like they sell next to game consoles and such) laying around and wondered if it would be a time or money saver to just rewire those.  I'd have to cut or unsolder most of the connections and then fab a panel (usually) to mount it in.  What do you think?  Worth the trouble, make one from scratch, or buy?  Thanks!

That sounds like way too much work for me.  You can get a pannel of 8 RCA jacks for not too much money through any of the major electronics distributors.  I generally buy individual RCA jacks as opposed to the prefab pannels, and those are pretty cheap.
