Ah well, when in Rome...mine is  indy_grinder . My workmanship is shoddy at best, so I would be surprised if anyone would actually want to buy anything I made and I couldn't bear to part with any of my toys anyway. I buy stuff there, but not too often. I prefer a "charity shop field trip" to a town I haven't been to in a while. Good way to get Vtechs, but not many keyboards to be had.

I did used to own a skateboard shop and when I sold on ebay regularly there were some pretty unscrupulous guys in that industry too. I guess it's the same everywhere, there are no friends in business.

Well this has pissed me off http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140120207780

Not only has he blatently copied a circuitbenders design even down to the patching multiples, patchables switches and even the front panel lines connecting them, I wouldn't mind of it was just that, but he's also stolen a chunk of text from the circuitbenders website to use in the second paragraph of the description!

Thats just rude i reckon! Angry

Fuck it paul, i'm going to be a man and apologise for the stealing of the text. It was lazy, and extremely rude and I am sorry. Regarding the patch bay, it's a a nice clean layout that's easy to understand, please take it as a complimentry statement about the quality of your work and it's influence on me.

I'll understand perfectly if you want to ban me, but as I said i'm going to be a man and apologise.

Hold on since when were you kaoticjamie, i could have sworn that was someone else entirely, isn't your ebay name something else?  Undecided

Ok, fair enough on the patchbay layout thing. Having been on the recieving end of Jesse Tablebeasts insane paranoid email offensives about how he invented the idea of SK-1 patchbays and the whole world has copied him and blah blah blah blah i can understand how a good design is sometimes reused by necessity and god forbid i should ever take things as seriously as that pyschopath Wink

But yeah, nicking the text as well was a bit rude and now you've gone and punctured my self righteous anger by apologising, you bastard!  Grin

I dont full get this post.I can see the pisser in someone taking free imformation your giving away and your designs and selling for silly money.I can also see how someone might be looking to make some cash.Do you know every ebay sellers cicumstance and what drives them to  ' cash in '/.You maybe helping them . . . its good to help others maybe and not know ? to get ripped off  ? i sell music , i get maybe 500 cds made and about 2000 copies end up in peoples hands via cdr , i have labels released my music and not pay me , but hey , i am helping feed others , i like that notion even if i have little myself.

your taking thgis way to seriously and i have a real feeling your post is inspired partly by envy  partly but the fact your losing /sales or the potential cash and partly but the fact you have genuine reason to feel aggreaved and are seeing people take the piss. Its a free market though and anyone can bend if they wish , lets face it , its hardly rocket science if you decide to take it up.

People are being ripped off maybe on ebay for sure  . i for one dont bend myself  , i cannot be fussed with the mess  , solder fumes and clutter it causes , its way easier for me to raise the cash and have it done , i buy bent gear and i am gratefull that some people have the nerve to take free information and capitalise on it.What you regard  as overpriced a non solder tech like me is happy to pay.Look at the crazy price for reed Ghaz, cssdv,ds;vsd;v;sd's items . . . is all a nonsense . . . hype and to be frank having used some cheap doepfer modules i can believe how crap half the noises these bent machines make are anyway . . .its easy to make noise . .

Thats the nature of this day and age though - people share info and the selfishly capitalise  on crap circuit bent devices that all sound the same , diostorted to fuck. . . shame i know.I liked you comments on table beast . he is a classic example of what these type of noises do to you over time and your head . . they fry it .

I think you post is cool but its iwhen is a silly toy bent to making really lame distorted noises , just keep bending and having fun .

Everyone give there ebay names ?

Thats why i mailed.

politician like  circuit bent police state  mentality  there . . .and who is anyone to ask people for their ebay ids ? Something smells here mate . . . sorry but i'm pretty down the middle most days and can see your point but really . . . i thought bending was about getting away from police state mentality.

I fully get yoour annoyance but it doesnt warrant do fear based mentality , have no fear . . let people steal and you will gain and share without wanting back and have fun.

So let me get this straight.... You've just signed up to this forum to do nothing but make a very lengthy post about ciruitbending fascism and a circuit bent police state mentality and you're saying that I'M taking this way to seriously? Grin

Before making posts like this I'd seriously invite you to check out the rest of the posts on this forum and note the general good humour and positive attitude that EVERY member seems to display. I think everyone here knows what a farce this all is and is just trying to have a laugh with it. This isn't the Yahoo group where every tiny offence is the end of the world.

I think you might have missed the point of some of the posts. Personally i find it annoying if someone steals a design i came up with not because of the fact that i'm ' losing /sales or the potential cash', as you put it, but because it irritates me no end that someone couldn't be bothered to come up with their own ideas and just took the easy route. Its a personal thing but thats the way it is i'm afraid.  Undecided

On another note, i object to people selling uitter crap for obscene amounts of money mainly for exactly the reasons you state but also because i wouldn't do it. Do a search for 'circuit bending' on google, circuitbenders.co.uk is the third hit after wikipedia and Reed Ghazala. Trust me when i say that i could be churning out utter crap for ridiculous money and charge a whole lot more for mods, but i chose not to as i like to think i have some honour and i'd like to keep circuitbending as inventive and realistically priced as i can.

I'd suggest that you actually read the all the replies to this thread and take note of the positive and adult attitude that people have taken to it. When mistakes have been made, then apologies have been given and everything is sorted out. Nobody is being coerced into giving their ebay seller names, its an entirely voluntary thing and no-ones going to be banned or discriminated against for not giving their name. To be honest i think a year after this thread was started its now working more as a networking thing allowing people to keep track of each other on ebay in a positive way.

stevengreene81 is my ebay id. I must confess that I did consider setting up some kind of business selling bent machines on ebay.
But after finishing my first bend (Speak & Spell) I realized that I couldn't let my baby go.  Grin
I'm not saying I'll never sell a bent instrument but if I ever did I'd have to put some effort into it first.
I like the way delfy sells his stuff. Maybe he sells everything he bends, I don't know for sure, but he always starts the bidding at 99p. This means people will only be paying what they think the toys are worth. They do get a bit high sometimes though.  Shocked

I do not sell any gear nor on ebay nor elsewhere.
I“m performing electronic music mostly with Theremin and Synths. My releases were all  under courtesy of white label music (London). Until now i did not use bent instruments for my releases. But i want to use for my next album as an experiment. --> electromungo on myspace
I did my first more complicated bending on the Casio Vl-Tone some weeks ago (posted here in the forum).
I have only intersest in exchanging thoughts about bendiing here to round up my equipment list for producing new interesting music tracks. My next poroject will be bending a DDD-1 which i will use for the album. But i will not start without some knowledge exchange not to fry it. So maybe somebody can give me some hints (see my question in the drumcomputers section)

Wasn't it about a year ago that futuremusic did the piece on circuit bending?
I'm sure that a lot of people got into circuit bending around then which would have put the price up in the UK at least.
Thats what got me into it I must admit!
My guess would be that a lot of people who got into it then have got either bored of it and moved on or realized that its really not that hard and so bend their own stuff now.

yeah, i blame future music, but then i blame future music for at least 90% of the worlds problems. As i would imagine do all those people that bought an MC303 on Future Musics glowing review stating that soundwise its almost indistinguishable from a TB303. Grin

I've been finding it a lot more difficult to shift circuitbent toys recently and so i don't really build many anymore Probably because as Mrsteve says,  a lot of people are doing it themselves. i've certainly been answering a lot more emails about basic circuitbending recently.

These days i don't think i'd bother putting anything up on ebay unless its something very special or unusual, but then i thought a green screen wobblevision i sold a while back was unusual enough to have gone for a lot more that the £30 it went for.

No offence to the Delfy guy if he's on this board but to be honest i think that possibly him and a couple of other people have just been putting to much up on ebay and have driven the prices down by constantly selling stuff. I know that when it was just me and occasionally one other guy selling stuff on ebay we were both very carefull to only ever sell the more interesting machines on ebay and not too often.

Some one paid me £30 quid for teh furby i bent, but i started that one at 99p. Even more complex stuff like drum machines are going for a lot less, think there was a modded roland 707 with patch bay and multi outs that went for 70 quid teh other week.
