Non-Electric Recording
« on: April 28, 2009, 10:23:13 AM »

Is there a way to record something without electrical service or battteries?  Technically, the vinyl format produces sound non-electrically, and only uses power to amplify or moderate the turntable speed.  But I was thinking something a little more practical...like a wind-up or solar-powered cassette recorder

Do you guys know of something in this line, which doesn't require plugging it or the batteries into the power grid?
It'd definitely be a cool project, has it not yet been done.

MP3 recorder powered off the wind-up bit of a wind-up radio?

If at first you don't succeed, stick it through a fuzzbox.

Not sure if you saw this or not (or even how relevant it is), but Mythbusters created a recording on a thrown piece of pottery http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2006/10/episode_62_killer_cable_snaps.html

It also has some links to some other stuff that may/may not be of interest.

I got one of these from maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31712
it can charge batteries or provide 3-9vdc from sunlight without the need for batteries BUT it has to be a very bright day for 9v
