casio magic light keyboard ML-1
« on: July 11, 2009, 06:08:13 PM »

I've just bought one of these for a quid!
Has anyone bent one? If so, could they remember how they did it and do they have any schematics?
I've destroyed the last few keyboards I've bent so am a bit wary about prodding around willy-nilly!

I've done it now anyway. I've added a jack socket, LED, 2 body contacts and a distortion control with on/off switch. I also added a large capacitor to the output to increase the bass. Seen here plugged into circuit bent Belcat echo pedal.

It's not worth it mate, it sounds shit. Ha ha ha!
I'm rebending at the moment to hopefully get some better sounds out of it.
I'll keep ya posted.

These actually have a pretty decent Piano sound for a little itty bitty keyboard (they're TINY, my avatar is a photo of my index finger on one of the ML-1 keys). I like jamming on this thing just the way it is, but I'll probably pick up several so I have extras lying around.

I don't know how much like the SA's they are on a technical level, but they are crystal clocked, and the circuit board does pretty closely resemble the graphic I've seen on casperelectronics.com. I'd be happy to take a picture of the circuit board for you if you want.

If you want to hear it I did the piano on this little jam from a couple nights ago with the ML-1 (the rest of the sounds come from a modified My Music Center).

I think as long as the ML-1 has the same OKI CPU as the Casio SA series, you should be OK ;) Oh, and not only does the ML-1 have totally different sounds than the SA series, it kinda sounds like a cheap Chinese keyboard
