Title: Tortured furby... oh good god...
Post by: Gleix on August 26, 2009, 08:51:44 PM
Well, I bent this furby since I found it at the flea market for $1. I hadn't bent a furby and always felt like that's "one of things things you're supposed to bend" (like speak and spells and SK-1's).  It's got an on off switch, an output, and a 9pin output for an atari joystick.

On the joystick: Up triggers the mouth button, the button is the "freeze" button, left is freeze+glitch, and right and bottom are both glitches, and the switch I added to the joystick just makes the motors on the furby go nuts. Not actually sure why.

That and it's eye(s) light up. Sometimes only one. again, not sure why.... but I felt it was lacking so...here's how he looks after awhile of painting, injuring, cutting up and burning:

I also decided he didn't need eyelids ;)

Here's a video (before he was attacked).

EDIT: Here's the video
Circuit bent furby controlled by atari 2600 joystick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGuqQlmau60&feature=channel_page#normal)

Leave it to me to say "here's a video" then just.. not post it.

That's one battered furby.

I skinned and autopsied one a few weeks ago, but ended up not bending it as the battery compartment was corroded causing instability and I had a little piano to bend anyway. I still have its skin sitting around though..

I look forward to seeing a video?

Wild man. I love my bent furby. I wish I could have done something more than just a momentary switch for the glitches though.

There was a little bit of Karma I suppose... when I went looking for the stapler to staple the little guy's foot I ended up with a bit of an injury... Don't ask how. Just stupidity.

[scroll down, not for the squeamish!]

Christ that hurt.  These are the staples that bend inward once stapled, so it took some effort to get it out.

Cool mods (not just to your finger). Sounds awesome, and the blue LED cyborg eye is very cool.

Why is it that so many bends are controlled by Atari controllers? I've never had my hands on one.

I picked some up for a dollar each and there's pinout information online which makes everything easy... that and if you have a nice electronics store nearby getting a 9pin d-sub connector won't cost almost anything.  Plus they're just fun :]

:D Well, the pain was a hard throbbing while it was in. Most of the pain was after trying to clip the staple into different pieces so I could "wiggle" it out at the right angle. The thought process was basically "Found the stapler...OW OW HOLY F - ... CAMERA, CAMERA THIS LOOKS NEAT - THEN FIX IT."

Not to sound too odd, but I did add some of my own blood to the Furby :P Nothing like the real thing eh?

On a side note, I just don't understand why I was never the popular kid in school!
