Title: alesis 3630 compressor modification
Post by: gert on April 13, 2015, 11:27:55 AM
i like to use this compressor on bass, to have sidechain compression with the kick bassdrum, but it's releasetime is just a tad bit too slow so the resulting output sounds a bit "polka" style... Has anyone got an idea where to start? Possibly i just need to track down the envelope circuit and change "some" capacitor.

ok it was easier than i thought, the release time is a 2m2 pot with a capacitor to ground on one end and goes to the OP with a resistor on the other end. its a 0,47uF cap and a 30k resistor.

i first changed the resistor to 4k7, but that only changed the "most minimal" release time, other values on the turn were still sluggish. changing the cap to 0,10uF finally made the thing faster, effectively enabling to do "gapless" side chain compression. who in the world needs the original range 50ms to 3 seconds? now it's about 5 times faster.
