Casio SA-2 - Powering it on whilst probing??
« on: July 18, 2011, 04:37:07 PM »

Hey guys,

having a real blonde moment here: trying to bend a Casio SA-2, but when i take the front casing off (the part with the keys and buttons) the power cuts, so i can't probe around while playing sound.

Is there a pin bridge that turns the device on? I've had a poke around but no luck as yet.

If I take the back off instead (keeping the front panel connected) the battery compartment obviously falls out, so i can't keep it powered.

I know i'm being a complete dumbass here, but i'm having an off day! Can someone advise?

Thanks!

You can buy (or even harvest from a dead toy) a 4AA battery holder and then just attach it to the SA-2's battery holder. That's why I've done and it works fine.

Yeah i was thinking that. I'll pop out and buy a 4 holder tomorrow.

I would have thought it was powerable straight from the board, but ah well.

Thanks for the input dude!  ;D

No problem. I've had that problem with the SA's I've done. One other thing I've done is just open it up and take the keys out. Then you put it back together and probe around on the solder joint side. But the battery holder thing is good to have as well because there are a lot of toys and keyboards out there with that battery set up.
