Title: DOD...(those stubborn switches)...
Post by: jamiewoody on November 10, 2010, 09:37:57 PM
i have a fx75 dod flanger, of the 1984 vintage i think. it has SPEED, WIDTH, REGEN.

anyhow, the switch is just %&#@*!. (sorry for cussing like they do in the cartoons...).

i have thought about hard wiring a new MXR or  EH style footswitch to this, but i have a couple of questions first.

1. there is a big rectangular hole when you remove the existing switch. i assume there is no remedy for this? i am not a welder....so, i assume RE-HOUSING is in order?

2. if i wire a CLICKABLE foot switch to this, i already assume i need to wire at least one cap in there to dampen the cliick in the amp...is there a practical cap value?

i am sure SOMEBODY must have dealt with this issue.

in the 70s and early 80s, DOD had some warm, ballsy stomp boxes. anything past the late 80s was so weak, it was almost not even there!  (i had the dark blue chorus box, i forgot the number...it was ultra lame!).

thanks!

Thats not one big switch. At a guess theres probably a tiny little tactile pushswitch under the foot pedal that could be replaced pretty easily. Withe the tiny amount of travel on the pedal mechanism it must be something pretty small under there. I'm guessing it might be using some kind of CMOS for silent switching  that is activated by the button.

I could be completely wrong though ;)

well,, i never said it was one big switch...  :P

anyway, if anyone has ever replaced one with a more substantial switch, let me know please.  i really like this flanger, other than the switch...

what lead me to believe that you thought it was one big rectangular switch was your use of the phrase 'there is a big rectangular hole when you remove the existing switch'.

Its an easy mistake to make............

let me rephrase..."there is a big existing hole when you remove the foot pedal"...better? ;-)

so, is there anything to hook up a new switch to in there?

Post some high-res pics of the board and the switch...

i had it opened last night, messing with the 3 trimmers inside. there are trimmers behind each potentiometer it seems. i adjusted each so they woould open as wide as possible.

i don't know, i had not messed with this in awhile...i don't like it as much as i thought i did now.

so, i think i will see if i can fix the switch and try to sell it on feebay...
