Title: Which way is the data going? (probably a dum question)
Post by: egr on July 23, 2008, 03:00:23 PM
When dealing with "data cut" type bends and not audio, is there a way I could easily tell which way the data is going?  Maybe a better way to say that would be:  BEFORE any traces are cut how can I tell where the data is originating (assume I have no info on chips whatsoever)

Not sure that makes sense  :-\
Thanks!

Use an LED to test? They only work one way.

Sweet!  I'll try that!

Fast response!
That must have been in under a minute.

That will only tell you if a line is active - although if you cut the trace you'll find the "upstream" side goes on and off

Got it!  Thanks!

There's a nice circuit out there that someone made for a PSR-6 with the data cut mod that has an LED on each line with some switching transistors.  About 1/4 the way down the page here:  http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-11677.html

That is some really great info!  After a day or two of fiddling with my data-cut PSS170 I came to the conclusion that I really need to re-connect the cuts and put toggles in between.  A patchbay alone is just not user friendly and recovering from crashes is a serious buzz kill.  Not so much success on sounds either.  :-\

I'll be upgrading my board with the toggled bridges as well as adding patch points for the percussion chip (also with toggles).  A lot of work for one toy but I'm determined to get the most fun out of it.

Thanks for pointing me to an excellent reference!!!
