Trigger LEDs

I've got a CB55 and Coron DS7 clone circuit and I'd like to include some sort of LED trigger indicator (ie LED briefly lights up when the circuit is triggered). On the DS7 I've wired the piezo trigger a 2N2222 transistors base in parallel to the trigger sensitivity pot. This does the job (my Beatstep Pro's trigger outs also work). Is there a better way of doing this? The LED switching on makes some percussive sound in the DS7 I think it improves the sound.
