My girlfriend gave me one of theses and I can't seem to open it up and see any ic's or black blobs. I'm guessing I need to open it where the screen is because when I opened it from the bottom, there was a board in there, but it was only the triggers for the keys. Does anyone know how to open one of theses bad boys?
I've not come across one before, but there are usually accessable screws on childrens toys, which may be concealed beneath stickers and/or compartments.
I'd just say have a good long search for signs of screws. And if all else fails, have you tried a hammer?
Only found one hidden screw and still nothing happens. Hmmm, looks like it's time to pry this little SOB apart.
Oh my gaaaaad, I knew there had to be more screws! They were hidden under plastic!
Hello - been lurking a while, this is my first post!
;D
I had a Vtech "My learning pal" which was very similar - screws were concealed under little orange plastic bits. Got them out by stabbing the spiky end of a probe into it and waggling around (ooer) ... took ages to get the damn thing open then I fried it inside a minute. :'(
Try those C3PO head voice recorder things like this one

There is just no way into the thing! Even if you manage to open up the base with some kind of red hot chisel, or get in through the speaker in the back of the head its like a ship in a bottle, in that the circuitry is a lot bigger than any hole it could possibly have been put in through.
In order to get the circuit out you have to destroy the head, which renders the whole thing kind of pointless :-\
