Title: Sa-8 crystal swap
Post by: strssmmnt on June 17, 2010, 04:26:55 PM
Have anybody done the crystal swap on a casio sa-8 as shown on casper electronics? I wanna try it but I've heard of many who have made the mod and nothing has happened... :-\

Something should happen.  If you replace the crystal with one that has a different frequency, it should affect the pitch of the playback.  There may be more than one crystal, and if you go way overboard then you may find it doesn't want to start the oscillator.

You could try sticking a trimmer capacitor across the crystal to pull it and see if that helps.

I've definitely got the crystal switching to work. :)
If it doesn't work the first time, swap the legs of the new crystal over and try again. Never had any problems with a new crystal aside from that.

I'm working on getting a proper pitch knob using an LTC1799 now though!
