Hi everyone Is Simon Here!
Just wanted to know if anyone have suggestions about crossbending...i have 2 yamaha pss (same model "pss7) and i will like to experiment and cross them..but not sure of the risk...any help?
thanks!
Presumably it'd help if you have a common ground and i'd stay away from the positive voltage rail if i were you. You might have some luck with the data pins of the FM synth chip, if the PSS7 has one
Thanks for the reply!
It give me a good idea of what i'm heading for..
So, i Need a common ground to start with..
Would be fine then connect both ground of the keyboards?
Still feeling a B confused..but is a good start.
cheers!
Fiinally have bent both.. i had some spare spray paint and i've been slightly gazalesque!! ;)

what to do next?...just find a ground and poke around on The 4 chips?
hope someone like to help me....
they look like Casio keyboards to me.
well anything that works on one might also work cross bent onto the other. Ground one to the other and poke around, although looking at them i'd be surprised if you can do that much.
Having never bent one or even seen inside one i can't really tell you much more.
in my opinion fun starts when you crossbent totally differend machines, like fm and pcm chips
for the unpredictable madness :P ok, sometimes you blow something, it's always a sad moment..
but after all their just worthless toys, who cares..
thats why it is better to experiment before pimping
anyway good luck and don't forget to drop here a mp3 with the results ;)
thank you both for give me infos and hints...i already feel like do it.
Thanks !
The idea i have is to cross the crash points and see if i can blend them with a potentiometer or if i can "glitch Vs glitgh" them , i dont think there is much to do too but as start i think will do it...if the result is positive i'll make a video of them and i'll post it here...with a note about the discover.
speak soon....
Simon.
Nothing really happened..
just few changes on the stereo frequencies..
nothing-really-exciting! :(
and that is the problem!!
(inevitably)"""I'm asking myself few questions...:
what could be a good target for a crossbender beginner?
What are the basic requirement a machine need to be crossbendable?"""
I dont know the answer yet but i think i will give it a go again..any suggestion?
well you could try with a portasound fm type keyboard
mix the fm datalines with pcm samples of another keyboard
i think you will have interesting results if you cross things before the d/a converter
and why not connect an antenna to one of the datalines.. see how it reacts to your cellphone etc

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sound of cross bent Korg DDD-1's. Check out my youtube page for some examples.
2x DDD-1 retro cross bending + midi sync for sale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y78DdwddOgw#ws)
So easy to get a good sound that doesn't sound anything like the bends you get by just bending inside the box.
I've crossbent DDD-1's and DDD-5's and every time I find a different, cool sound.
...Apparently the situation can go really nasty mmm! thanks for that video Noisebeast ,and thanks to you too nochtanseenspecht..you guys have read my mind!
Let me please unveil the reason why i wanted to talk about crossbending on this post then:
I currently have A KORG DDM 220 I've "semi-bent" and a Korg DDM 110 on the operation table "scan started"
The idea was have them bent and then lightly crossbent..
Also some of my pss are about to get the same treatment..
..i can say i have the basic informations:
Connect grounds.
Make sure to stay away from the positive voltage rail.
FM and PCM chips are a good sign of crossbendability
Good!
Is gonna happen!!
(inevitably)-(inevitably questions)"""What about current flowing from one machine to another...can a voltagemeter be an instrument to reduce the risk of frying it?
Should i just do it... is all about experimentation?
Video Pictures Advices MP3 or something on topic will help too..

To those have recived Negative Karma from me...
I think i've just click on the wrong button...my intention was give you positive karma...so i push applaud or smile i don't remember..I will like to apologize for the inconvenient and ask the owner of the forum to delete my vote or redirect it to positive as i wanted to do!
( :-[) sorry for the inconvenient guys!!
Siix.
thats SMITE not 'smile', which i think might be part of the confusion there ;)
Applaud is positive, smite is negative.
I've removed the negative ones that it looks like you've given in error.
...OOOuCHH!!
Thanks Paul!
i really appreciate that!
Got a video for the PSS7
To all of you.........

i'm really liking the throaty high pass filter kind of distortion thats starts about 0:22 on that thing

these at leaat look hip....i'd love to have one in every colour!
@ Paul
To do that i've applied a Vactrol to the Distorsion feedback mod.
I dont know the reason why it produces that sound i think is something concerning the led?...it goes low power when i thist the knob..
Another strange thing is that it works only with the out from the speaker..if i plug pss7 from the out at the back it changes in regular feedback mod.
Mistery of circuit bending..at least for me! ! :)

That might well be something to do with grounding. Without the audio output in place the whole keyboard will be ungrounded, but as seen as you plug it in it'll be grounded via the shield connection of the cable.
mmm Paul..you've made me think 8) and is a very good point.
i will do some experimentzz soon to see if i can make that knob into a proper bending...i mean!! if i can make it work on other Keyboards..maybe is possible.
At the moment i'm quite busy and i still have to finish My Korg DDm110...i have the bendings all organised.
Fine!! i have to organize the project box..and then probably give a mark 2 to the DDM220
(quite for sure but maybe not!)
To finally cross bend them.or finally destroy them!!
I tried cross-bending but Mrs Gordonjcp just got annoyed and said I'd ruined her tights.
hold on a second, i'm sure i've got a comedy sting sample here somewhere! ;)
:)
Got to say something today..I agree with the definition for the DDM 110/220 "Very difficult without much reward"..i had all the bending ready mounted and i had to take all off..some combinations can erase the memory..some of those work individually and also in combination with others but after flicking switches few times..Baam!! Erased!!
Still.... the sound of those beast is beautiful !!..gonna be on the workbench for few hours again i need to complete the opera!!...
...:(Please father Xmass!!!! send me a TR-626!!! ::) )
I don't see why, they're just plain ordinary mask-ROM-based sample playback machines.
Stick to the ROM and you can't really go wrong.

Done!
(gonna make a video soon ;))
and then cross them:
::)
......Is Crossbending is worth it?
...i guess is a matter of taste......but?..what the risk?..mmmm???
It sounds more or less like that:
A.I. Bent Korg DDM 110 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLdrOQikGV0#ws)
Got:
3 Switches to change soundz
2 knob for the change of patterns
Conclusions:
Cross bending is not needed on those DDM ( i guess) they sound good once connected togheter via midi...
still "not so much result".. let's say not much versatile.
If you liked what i did with those pieces i wouldn't mind give you directions...post here so other can benefit.
There is a sound of them together on this video

Don't worry about it, your English is at least 1000% better than my Italian! ;D
