I want to bend a Hing Hon EK-001 but can't find any on eBay. Where are they usually?
Also, are there any guides on how to bend it?
Thanks.
Hi
I have a few, you can have 1 if you want. To be honest i haven't checked any of them to see if they work as i bought them a while back. They are just sitting gathering dust, so send me an email if you want my email is on my profile. You can have it for nothing, i have too much stuff anyway and it is almost christmas after all ;)
1) You would need to pay the postage (which wouldn't be much as they are small)
2) Its not to be bend and put on sleazebay, its for your use only!
3) Upload photos and soundclips on this site once you have modded it so i can see your good work
if you tick the above boxes its as good as yours (i will need to check it works though), just email me
ian
prepare to be buried under a deluge of emails electoyd ;)
hehe they would be doing me a favour clearing all this shite out of my house, maybe i should let them do a mass house clearance! i like your recordon though, v retro cool, though i'm sure its probably piled up with 50 other odd looking "artifacts" if its anything like my cave. To be honest Circuit bending was cheap when i got into it probably like yourself Paul, just trying to give something back to someone starting out because prices are so unrealistic now :'(
If it's a mass clearance you want, PM me some of the stuff you want to shift, I always like gathering bits and bobs :P
Oh yeah.. What do you have that needs to go ?
I sent you an e-mail! I'm sure I'm not the only one!
there are a couple of things to remember about these keyboards...
• they might not have the words "hing hon" on the description if buying on ebay. mine was listed as a yamaha...
• they are not all made equally. i saw some photos of the insides, and mine is different. no IC, a bouquet of transistors, caps, resistors, diodes...there is a black blob under which flows to the keyset. so i assume it controls that.
Jamie, I think you may have picked up a Golden Camel (http://weltenschule.de/TableHooters/GoldenCamel_7A.html) by mistake.
Edit: I got your e-mail, Electoyd, and am now replying to it.
Defo the ones with the 4 red buttons i've got-cheers for reply Nixot
i will have some other shit to offload at some point will keep yoos posted.
maybe i should start an 'offload your shit' section :)
That sounds like a terriffic idea.
Good idea, maybe even trading stuff or if people actually are tripping over things in their house, and some people might be broke and barely able to buy the components never mind pay £50 for a 50p keyboard it only seems fair to spread the stuff as long as folks dont bend it and fire it on ebay. I'm not saying i'm gonna stick up a list of 50 keyboards and say help yourself, but if i get sick of tripping over something and someone else can use it then what the hell i'm not driven solely by the need for cash. I've always felt circuit bending is about the community and helping each other there needs to be more good deeds before ebay kills circuit bending off because no one can afford to do it, i dont buy into the scat world of circuit bending where everything is driven by profit.
there is a good community on this site that is why i am helping people here. Paul you manage to combine running a business and helping people and have a good balance, scat could learn something from you, if only he wasn't so ignorant and full of his own hype (oh yeah and banned ;D)
I like that idea. I've got an unbent PSS-140 somewhere that I intended to do about 3 years ago but never got round to. Only problem is theres a bit of a bump in the plastic on the front where I used a screw that was too long when putting it back together after it had been in bits for about a year. I'd forgotten where everything went. It's of little use to me now but maybe it'd be swap-worthy :P
I need more keyboards for bending. I may email you sometime in the near future if you have enough you don't want/need. . .if that's cool with you, I mean.

nope...the case looks just like other HING HONs, the inside is different. the only semiconductor is transistors and the blob controlling the keyset.
it sounds beautiful! but, needs a doctor right now. i have no idea why the keyboard does not work. may just need new batteries.
i've added a new section in the Parts & components board called 'offload your shit'. If anyone has any stuff they want to shift feel free to offer it there.
I'm happy to use electoyd's rules for the board unless anyone has any objections?

Nothing's posted there yet and I already have a boner for it.
excellent Paul-will post stuff as it comes to the surface. Think i've made a good start, i've posted the hing hon to Nixot so hopefully he should be having fun soon. Obviously we need people to be straight up about why they are wanting things and it will be on trust, so if you say your gonna send an item send it, and if you say your gonna send some postage, send it and everything should be cool. Better than relying on ebay for everything and it helps encourage community spirit and interaction between members.
Sup everyone,
My Hing Hon arrived yesterday! A huge thank you to Electoyd for taking all the time and trouble to send it to me!
I've already found a good bending point for a pitch mod (with my fingers :P ) and I hope to find a lot more!
Now to post him a postal order to cover the cost of the postage.
Also here's a picture to prove I'm not lying:

cool beans! that looks exactly like the one i own. i wonder if the inside looks the same. did you buy it on ebay? if so, was it listed as a "hing hon"? mine was listed as a yamaha..
Jamie
i didn't get them off ebay, i got 4 off a guy at a car boot sale for next to nought. I've got a couple with green buttons as well dunno what the diff is with them though but they look exactly the same.

Hmm, I can't find an IC in mine either, or a tuning trimmer. Time to flip over the PCBs, methinks.
I'm sure someone has posted this before, but there's a filter you could stick in there if you're feeling adventurous :)

if you have the same one i have, i do not think it has an IC. there is a black blob, but i assume under that is the distribution for the keyset.
there are small groups of resistors, caps, transistors and diodes. i assume THAT is actually the synthesizer!
I've bent one of these and they sound great. Check a demo:

I've been trying to locate more of these as well. It is also called the AK-900.
I tried the following site:
http://www.omnitronelectronics.net/phpstore/html/AMERIKIT-AK-900-ELECTRONIC-KEYBOARD-KIT-non-solder-version-957.html (http://www.omnitronelectronics.net/phpstore/html/AMERIKIT-AK-900-ELECTRONIC-KEYBOARD-KIT-non-solder-version-957.html)
I went as far a placing an order. I received an email from the company that the kit has been discontinued. :-\
Hope this is useful.
