Just put up a quick video of my diy ring mod...........

Sounds pretty good.  Have you considered changing the pot to give you a wider useful range?

If you put two in series and drive the carrier osc frequency up into the ultrasonic region, you'll get a frequency shifter.

The shift will be the difference in frequency between the two carriers.  Note that this isn't the same as a pitch shifter - it won't "stretch" intervals, just move 'em around.
