I'm all for getting crazy ass sounds out of cheapass cheesy keyboards, but i'm wondering if any of them are actually usable musical instruments?
I'd like a cheap little bendable keyboard that I can actually play (ie, in some sort of tune!). Any suggestions??
I was thinking that a PCM 'board would be best, as it should stay in tune, even when the ROM lines are scrambled (or so i'd imagine).
Any ideas?
You'd be better off buying a synthesiser with knobs and patchbay!
I once managed to produce a different tone to each of the keys on a Casio SK1 or changed every time a note was pressed... doubt if I could ever repeat it though.
knobsynths rule !
a cheap alternative would be a yamaha pss140 (loads of info on this forum)
on itself a boring and cheap machine, but very bendable in a musical way if you give it some atention.
i found most keyboards fun to bent, amazing sometimes, but not usable in my tracks,
unless i capture them in a sample . i just don't trust them ;D
Bent hin hong ek001 is great for music, as are most of the casio MT or yamaha pss range... tho most bent stuff i make (even the toys) can manke inspirational sounds for music i'm doing for work...
The Yamaha VSS-200 and even better the VSS-30 will grind up samples but still leave them perfectly playable from the keyboard unlike the SK's which tend to do that 'different effect on every key' thing

hi I have a yamaha pss140 on its way to me from ebay. Please could you link some threads from this forum which could help me out. :)
i find my bent casio sk5 very musical
a patch bay offers a host of bends that alter the tone/timbre of notes, but not the pitch
see: spiritbunny.bandcamp.com to hear a bent SK5 in a tracks. i play them live too no worries (but write down the bends/patching for each song) - Spirit Bunny live at The Waiting Room Part III (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svVU8GhrBOs#)
