Title: Freezes (requiring reset)
Post by: drissa on May 07, 2008, 07:12:47 PM
Is there any way of predicting and controlling these? Is it simply something to live with? Dependent on the device?

I have a body contact on one instrument which will sometimes screw things completely and require a reset.

Usually, it is something you just have to deal with. Though sometimes if a direct connection causes freezes, adding some resistance may help.

One of the first things I do on any device is try to find two points that when connected, reset the device. Then I wire up a normally open momentary push-button switch for easy resetting. Finding these reset points is just trial and error, but many devices have multiple connections that will perform a reset.

Otherwise you could put a normally closed momentary switch between the batteries and the board, as it's easier to push a button than flip a switch back and forth. However sometimes a device needs to be disconnected for a few seconds to reset, so you might have to hold the button.

What a load of text for what I thought would be a simple response.

Thanks. Yes, I thought about adding a resistor. Will try.
