Title: Roland TR-626 ideas
Post by: Gleix on May 11, 2009, 03:48:42 AM
So I'm getting together everything I'm going to be doing with this drum machine. This'll be my most thorough project and a real piece of work, but should be worth it.  It'll be set up on a big wooden casing with the TR-626 at a slant and in front of it will be a big metal panel with the following:

34 point patch bay (banana)
8 points connected in groups of two for multiple connections (don't have stackable jacks)
Patch control center (able to link up 10 patches with a switch and a button for easy access to favorites)
Kill switch and volume knob for Bass drum, Snare, Hihat, Toms and Crash/ride cymbals
8 Switches for kit switches
12 switches for neat "fills" I found poking around that changes the rhythm.
4 1/4" audio outs that output squarewaves in different octaves

Here's a quick photoshop mockup of what it'll look like completed including my panel layout:

Does anybody have any suggestions? If there's anything else worthwhile I could stick in the big "626" area on the panel I'd like to hear about it - I couldn't find any stable pitch connections.  A few that wouldn't work with pots, just switches.

ZIF ROM socket in the panel, and a switch to toggle between internal and external ROM.

Are you sure there's not a crystal clock on there ? Also on the 505 you can pitch the drums individually maybe it work's the same way ?

Have you read all the way thru this ? There alot of gold in the comments

I'm not sure about the clock - but yes, I had read through that page. I picked up lots of pointers from burnkit and all the comments. I am gonna add a pitch down switch I've found, but I haven't found a pitch up that effects every sound or doesn't change the rhythm.  I'll probably steer clear of individual pitch mods since I don't think I'd use that much.

When I get home I'll try testing R39 on the 626. It's a pitch resistor in the 505, maybe it's the same? The two machines are very similar.

Are you serious ?? You don't want to be able to pitch down the bass drum for some rumble ? Or the hihats for some synthi sounds ? Also on burnkit they say it's possible to create a bassline with some bends.. I think some pitching would be nice for this !

Would there be any risk replacing the 6AA battery holder with a simple 9v battery clip?  Or running a 9v battery into the DC power jack?

The 9v block just won't last as long as the 6 AA cells.
