Title: Coron/Frontline/JHS/MXR DS7 drum synth clone
Post by: Circuitbenders on August 14, 2009, 03:44:24 PM
French site with a lot of cool DIY synth stuff. A selection of PCB's are available including a cheap & cheerful Coron/Frontline/JHS/MXR DS7 drum synth clone!
If you don't actively lust after the Plasma VU meter using 'Russian bargraph gaz discharge tubes' then we don't want to be seen with you ;-)

at the moment Marc Bareille is on hollydays, when he's back, he takes orders again.
i go for the ds7, ds8 and a filterclone.. :) maybe altogether in 1 box..
btw, he said there's a new drumsynth clone coming soon  :P
maybe i try that instead of the ds7

i let you know soon i hope..

I've taken a couple of passes at the DS7 and haven't been able to get it quite right.  I've etched my own boards, and I'm sure the problem must be somewhere in that process, as the traces are pretty fine.  Just the sight of the board art makes my blood pressure go up.

okay, i finished the ds8 clone, i never ordered the ds7.
conclusions so far : highly recommendable  :D
only i changed r11 (560 ohm) with 100 ohm, for more bass (in the high region it makes no difference)
also changed r30 (100K) with a higher value for more output, as the level was a bit to low
i tested triggering from an 606, and that works fine
also i made the cv input mod, tested it with my mate's 202, and that works also fine, a little out of scaling,
but usable still. think to build a baby10 sequencer to go along with it.. it a nice little monosynth (no filter) after all
also we put it true a tubescreamer and got a decent 909 kick out of it
808 kick was not the same, as the decay is differend
but there's many more sounds in it, a great range in fact
so thanks again Crusty Paul for sharing this, i am very happy with it !!   :)
@ Computer at sea : hope you get it going soon !

Hello, I also bought it from Marc, and had no luck. With no inverter, i solded together two pins of the noisecolor (middle and top), i hope this is right. At the end of the day, it doesn't work (just a low hum sound) and the battery gets hot in 5 minutes. If you have some clues, i'd be glad to have some help in the testing process (i have a tester and can take a picture if it helps).
