Title: should i mod my tr606
Post by: selfpreservation on October 01, 2010, 10:08:54 PM
hi anyone got a modded 606 i bought one with the intents of moddiing it but i think ive fallen for the little bugger it sounds so sweet as is im not sure if it needs it be modded , i already have a modded dr110 which is cool and sounds similar but i think the hi hat filters / pitch just sound weird good but weird (i fitted switches to return to factory hats)

are the mods worth doing , are theyre any mods which arent worth doing ? do the hat filter/pitch mods sound weird ? or do the sound like pitched hats

cheers ciaran

don't get me started on the 606. Its the most massively overrated and overpriced piece of crap i've ever seen. You could build all of those sounds for virtually nothing but if they came out of any machine that didn't have Roland written on it you wouldn't give then a second listen. The DR110 is a far better machine.

Sorry, the 606 is my pet hate  ;)

i didnt pay much for it not much more than i paid for the dr110 , i certainly wouldnt pay mor tha £150 for one but i do love it, i like sound of the dr110 as well but the sequencer is crap i hate the way you have to scroll through the banks and the way it starts up on the factory banks  >:(  and its not very loud which is annoying cause you have to increase gain an im finding im using a noise gate when recording it, and also because of the 12ppqn resolution of the sequencer it doesnt like my Shufflebox at higher values but apart from that the dr110 is great , ive installed trigger ins on it so i gonna get a highly liquid kit and trigger it via midi.

The machine does its job very well without and audio mods, the only thing that you should do is fit seperate outs for the sounds and go for the Highly liquid kit.

thats looks very cool but the question is, why bother with a 606? If you're going to that much effort why not just build some voices from scratch, or even just copy the 606 voices and sell the 606 as some idioit will be bound to give you £300 for it.

whats the bassdrum mod like ? cause it looks like all the rest of the mods could be switched in and out easily , the bassdrum looks more permanent ? can it be reduced to a dull thump similar to its original sound as well as the 808 type sound?
