Title: Alesis HR-16 No power
Post by: procom32 on November 20, 2010, 05:55:19 AM
Hello all,
I have a problem with my HR-16.
It was working and then just stopped, so I opened it up to take a look and the voltage across the battery was .07v so I figured the battery needed to be replaced.
Any other common problems that happen to these guys, and should the battery be the main problem?
BTW I have the first revision HR-16 REV. A

Power supply.  They are total cack, and if you are still using an original Alesis power supply more than nine months after the HR-16 was released I'm amazed.

Check for 9V AC on the output of the PSU.  When you don't find it, throw it away and build a new 9V AC power supply.   If you find any other AC supply from around 8V to around 12V that should work reasonably well, but it must be AC.  Some HR-16s have a 3.5mm jack plug for the power connector, some have a "normal" power connector.  As a side note, MMT-8s use a 9V AC power supply but aren't really fussed and will work off a DC supply.  HR-16s require AC for the split supply rail inside.
