Title: Yamaha PSR-2 repairing to bend?
Post by: manofjoe on October 20, 2016, 05:33:39 AM
I found a yamaha psr-2 at a thrift store, the problem is it won't turn on, tried batteries and 12v power adapter.

I am new to bending and am wondering if it would be possible with a multimeter to poke around inside to locate and fix the problem, or if it isn't worth it and exchange the keyboard for store credit.

Feel free to elaborate on your answers and add anything you think would help! All is appriciated!

Hi, Sorry about the delayed response I know this topics a bit old

It never hurts to poke around with a multi meter, If your not getting anything when you power it on it may be an issue with the power not reaching the main board or the ground being disconnected, that kind of thing. I would start by visually inspecting the board to see if anything appears to be disconnected/broken (loose wires, damage to the board, that sort of thing). Then use the multi meter to verify the components and connections. Start at the power source and work your way through the circuit. (I'd recommend powering via batteries during any testing for safety)

Check the power button itself as well, it sounds silly but it may be busted

It may be an issue with the CPU in which case you are somewhat out of luck, but it could just as easily be a broken wire or a burnt out component which is easily and cheaply repairable.

There's some great vids on youtube as well if you get stuck, let us know how it goes :)
