And the lesson to be learnt is, never buy a cheetah product without opening it up first. I'm astonished this MD-16 even turns on!
God knows what Cheetah were thinking when they decided to use that battery in all their machines. I' don't think i've ever seen a cheetah without some battery leak damage.

hi similar problem here. I bought a Cheetah Md16 a while ago, under the assumption it was working.. (lieing ebay seller..) anyway the machine powers up and none of the buttons work and the sounds coming out of each output are massively corrutped digital sound scapes of nonsense. like all the sounds are glitched up to the max and coming out at once. Sound kinda cool, but I would rather have the machine working correctly.
i notice once I opened up the case that the battery was leaky and pretty much sad looking, so I removed it. I then gave up on the beast and put it back in its box (the original none less).
After reading the circuitbent site and discoverign this cheetah may be of some use, I am keen to get it going.. Can anyone that owns a MD16 let me know what the power rating on the battey pack is. I am sure it was a 3.6v battery pack with 3 connectors.
Also, any tip on repair rubber buttons would be great. Also is someone can provide a bin file of the OS so I can burn a new chip for mine, since i figured the OS is well buggered, or maybe some of the buttons are shorting them selves.
ive attempted cold starts and hard resets to no avail.

Thanks very much... I shall at least make an attempt now to get this CHEETAH MD16 up and running again, as i'm sure you know there is northing more challenging than an old machine that makes out it doesn't want to work again... wish me luck. This will be my first attempt at bending a device.. wish me luck.

I replaced the battery on my MD-16 as I caught it just in time before it leaked everywhere, but everytime I turn it on it says Cold Start?, what does this mean exactly ?, and it keeps resetting the sounds when its turned off, do you need an expansion card to hold your settings ?, or is it doing the fish ?

It will always do that when its had no battery in it for a bit. Either you have to do a factory reset or your battery isn't actually installed properly. If i recall correctly you have to press shift and YES when it says cold start to accept it.
If that doesn't work let me know and i'll dig out the mighty tome that is the MD16 manual and take a look.

Hi all,
I know this is an old thread but i've also got a leaky battery in a MD16 but i cannot get it out! Is is soldered in there usually? Or perhaps the corrosion has stuck the battery to the pins? If anyone could advise I'd be most grateful!

The battery is soldered in. You should be able to get it out using a solder sucker or some solder wick
