Too Many Knobs
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:29:21 PM »

on the dutch synthforum there has been a topic recently about a DIY distortion with 6 to 8 knobs to shape the sound. because it is a cheap and easy unit to build, and it sound better (also more dirty) than most distortions imo, it would be immoral not to share this info with you freaks  ;)

so here's the schematics
http://gaussmarkov.net/layouts/tmk/tmk-schem.png
and the partslist (unmodded)
http://gaussmarkov.net/layouts/tmk/tmk-parts.txt
it's also moddable with germanium diodes, bias knob, voltage drop etc

since i could only attach a 100 kb, i wont let you hear how it sounds,
but anyone interested in what it does to a tr-606 beat and a jp-6 arp (dry recorded) should check post no 128
in the topic on the dutch synthforum :
http://www.synthforum.nl/forums/showthread.php?t=126776&page=5

me i'm so happy with it, i will make a second one  :D

haven't seen those, cheers Paul !
hmm where to start.. perhaps ms20 filter, or the "gargler", or the idiot wah  :)
nice thing with these circuits is, they all run on 9V. and they're so small they fit almost anywhere

the two triangles both say u1

but theres a note that says "u1, u2"

the TL062 is a dual opamp. There are two identical opamps on the one chip with U1 referring to one, and U2 referring to the other. You can find the datasheet here http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tl062.pdf which shows you the pin out.

The opamp on the right of the schematic should probably be labelled U2 for clarity.

It doesn't really matter anyway, because you can get single, dual and quad versions of most opamps.  If you can't find a TL062, a pair of TL061s will do.  You won't find those either, so just get a TL072 instead, or TL082.  The key is that it's a FET opamp so it has a high input impedance.  The actual type isn't important, and the number of amps in a single package even less so ;-)
