Bending a furby. [Newbie help]
« on: September 10, 2016, 04:22:39 PM »

Hi guys!

I'm a first time bender but an above average solder.
I just purchased a 2012 furby so i can start tinkering with it.

I need tips how to get started.

What i want to do is:
-Pause switch. (What ever it's doing, it pauses it and then resumes where it was left)
-Volume/speaker pitch knob. (Probably going to buy a volume knob and solder it in so i can change the pitch)
-Simple on off switch to cut the power. Probably going to just use the original on off but extend it.
-Speed controller faster and slower.
-Weird glitchy stuff?
-If possible, i want to control the LED display eyes to make them do weird stuff
-If possible, record and playback custom sounds?

All switches will be mounted in a controller box that is wired to the furby.
If possible, original fur will be mounted back to make it seem normal..

Also if you guys could explain the mechanics and how it actually works and where to solder on to?
I have a multimeter so if i need certain voltages or resistances, i can measure them to get it correct.

Thanks!

I think the problem with this post is that the 'tips' you've asked for, appear to be a full guide from beginning to end on how to bend a Furby!

If you try it yourself and then ask for help if you get stuck, then people are a lot more inclined to offer assistance.

Personally i've never bent a furby, but i suspect that a fair bit of what you want to do won't be possible.
Do furbies sample? If not, then you won;t be able to make it record and playback sounds.

Okay.. Does anybody know where do i put a short circuit to get it to loop at a press of a button? I have resistors if the short circuit needs one in between to prevent damage.
The problem with this 2012 edition furby is that it's not an analog circuit. It's a digital circuit.. So it's 10 times harder to bend this thing.

Is there anybody here who has a bent 2012 furby that has a project thread somewhere in the internet that i can look at?

I want to start out simple and just find a simple loop bend.

I did find a tutorial how to skin this thing:
