Medic!!
« on: March 14, 2016, 11:41:00 PM »

So I know this isn't a Circuitbending question, so I apologise for that, but I was just wondering if anyone had come across a faulty Zoom 1202 in the past they were able to repair?  The reason I ask is that mine has decided to give up and I was just curious if it was likely to be a potentially easy fix or if I should be done with it and throw it in a small river and begin my 2 weeks of mourning.  It's a bit annoying really, I've only had the thing a few months after picking it up on ebay for about £25 (I guess maybe I now know why it was so cheap).  Not the end of the world, but a bit sad all the same as it's the first bit of hardware I've had die on me.  Anyway, the symptoms were the output started fading in and out which progressively started to take longer to fade back in.  Now it occasionally sort of stutters some weird noise (which isn't even anything worth recording!).

Sorry again for posting here as it's not circuitbending related, but I guess nobody else would think saving a nasty old Zoom 12xx worthwhile.  Thanks for any help or advice.

Some 1202's seem to be very prone to problems. They seem to have somewhat dubiously designed internal power supplies that generate a negative power rail.
I've repaired one by replacing the surface mount JRC2360 DC converter at the back of the board, but i've also had a couple that i just couldn't figure out.

Thanks for the reply Paul.  Worst case scenario, I'll just have to pick up another one.  They come up on ebay often enough.   ;)

A good chance for us to come together, share knowledge.
