audio interfaces opinions
« on: January 19, 2011, 08:30:48 AM »

hi im gonna buy a second hand motu 828 or a mackie 400f (as my beloved yamaha dspfactory is not compatable with my g5 mac  >:(), or something along that line it will be primarily on mac leopard but might want to switch to pc now and again to retrive old projects so firewire is probably the way to go ,i akso need dc coupled outs and a minimum of 8 outs , i wont entertain maudio products ,just wondering anyone got any praise or horror stories for audio interfaces or motu 828mkII/IIIS firewire for sale reasonably priced  ;)

If you get a MOTU with DC coupled outputs you can use them as control voltage and trigger outputs to control analogue kit etc.

which is nice..........

I just set up silent way with my MOTU 2408 mkII and it works brilliantly. In fact i think i might have to buy another secondhand 2408 interface rack to hang off my PCI card just for this, as about £100 for 4 channels of extremely configurable analogue control via the normal output jacks seems like a good deal to me.

Having said that, it doesn't look that tricky to convert the Lightpipe output for this.

is the mkI compatible with Silent Way? It only mentions the mkII and mkIII as being compatible on the website.

as far as im aware it just needs to be dc coupled so if its compatible with volta it will be compatable with silent way

from motu website is says volta requires

"An audio interface with DC-coupled outputs, such as any MOTU FireWire, USB2, or PCI audio interface with quarter-inch TRS outputs"

so it am guessing it will work  8)
