Yamaha FM datasheets - YM2164
« on: August 29, 2006, 07:18:03 PM »

I don't suppose by some freakish chance anyone has a datasheet for the Yamaha YM2164 FM synth chip do they? There is nothing on the net although i can recommened using the japanese Google at www.google.jp if you are looking for this kind of thing. Speaking japanese is usually a bonus but i did discover that the YM2151 is nearly the same thing and thats more than i found on the english google.

I'd rather get hold of the YM2164 sheet though.........anyone?

Hello,

the YM2151 datasheet:
http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/90457/ETC/YM2151.html

i don't have found any info about the YM2164 but the following is nice, too:

the "Yamaha YM2149" is a clone of the  "General Instruments AY-3-8910"   - pretty the same thing

AY-3-8910 Datasheet:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ronholst/map/resources/sound/generalinstrument_ay-3-8910.pdf#search=%22AY-3-8910%22

Info about:
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~rga24/computer/music/index.html

You can even take the  AY-3-8912 which is the same as the AY-3-8910 but has an extra 8bit I/O port

PS:
it's no FM synth, it's a 3channel programmable synth, the first two channels are squarewave osc and the third is a noise generator (Gameboy like sound)

Just wondering if anyone has got any further towards successfully circuit bending an FB-01 (seeing as I have one lying around gathering dust).

I tried another search for a datasheet for the YM2164 without any luck, however I found a service manual for the FB-01, which has a certain amount of info about the chips and their functions as well as detailed PCB maps. The pin configuration and description for the YM2164 seems effectively the same as that for the YM2151.
