Traveling/Flying with Bent Instruments

Greetings--

I'm planning a trip to a conference next year where I'm performing with some bent instruments (Casio MT-240, Sk-1, others, depending on space). Because it's across the country (U.S.), I'm flying, and I haven't before dealt with traveling with my bent gear, and as you can imagine I'm a bit apprehensive at the thought of some TSA agent fucking with my hard work.

Any experience flying with bent instruments?? Thanks much. Cheers.

Interesting question. I wouldn't have thought that airport security are that keen on x-raying peoples luggage to find a load of rewired electronics inside.

Having said that, we ship bent gear all over the world via airmail and its exceptionally rare that something actually gets opened by customs or security. I guess if you didn't want to carry gear with your luggage you could always just pack it all up and courier it to your destination.

I would say that you should inform them that you're travelling with musical instruments and valuable art pieces. This will help you in 2 ways-you're letting them know that there are weird looking things inside your bag and also you'll let them know what to steal.
