Title: IRC Channel?
Post by: kick52 on February 09, 2008, 06:46:16 PM
Hello.

Just wondering about creating a room on freenode or something. Would be cool to chit chat. I normally have loads to say which doesn't really need a new topic for it..

If we could a few members here to join it would be quite awesome.

(For those unaware of IRC: IRC means internet relay chat. Basically a protocol for chat rooms, with different servers, and rooms)

Don't mean to be rude, but

BUMP!

It would be cool if you, Paul/circuitbenders would be interested.

I know absolutely nothing about IRC and i've never used it, but if you know what you are doing then by all means, get to it!

not sure how popular it would be as the most members we've ever had on this board at any one time is 5 or 6 but maybe people who don't sign into the forum would use IRC, who knows.

I'd set up a CGI client if it would bring more people.

Ok, I'm there.

I was trying to get my same username as here, but it looks like I'm on there with my real name, which is Galen.

Honestly, I've never been entirely clear on what an IRC channel is.  I had it up for a couple of weeks on my old computer, but I never made any use of it.  I'm assuming that it's some sort of chat thing, right?

An IRC channel is one chat "room" on a server.

I have used mIRC for years....Now when I downloaded Colloquoy, I have figured out to connect to EFnet, but I am unable to connect to FreeNode.  Here are my details:

irc.freenode.net
Server Port: 6667
SSL: No

Installed some IdentD crap, and am connected.  There's doesn't appear to be anyone in the channel, however.

Appreciate the mention of Linux very much.  Would like to make others aware that though I have not used the IRC capabilities on Pidgin, it does have them.   I mention this because Pidgin/Giam has gotten more popular over the years. Would love to livechat with you guys. Now need to figure this IRC thing out.

No, you just need to connect to Freenode and join #circuitbending - if that doesn't work then please either PM me on Freenode or here.  Note that you may need to register your nick before you join, and you definitely will to PM.

Yup, it wasn't me that set it up.

Try now, I removed +i - it's no wonder the channel has been quiet...
