Midi syncing
« on: January 29, 2012, 11:32:24 PM »

So, I'm not to familiar with midi, but I have something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I'd love to be able to sync my Boss RC-20XL with beats in Ableton. How the hell would I go about doing that? Is there any type of Highly Liquid kit I could use for that?

Agh, just realized that this should have gone in the effects forum, feel free to move it.

i'm not easily scared by a challenge , but this one.. i'd pass.

only remote possibility is see straight away would be a midi clock decoder, basically transforming the midi stream into a pulse every bar or beat. which you could then run through AND gates, against the record and play momentary switches.
that way your 'recording start foot tap' would sync up with the midi clock, provided you tap a little early.
just thinking out loud.
you would probably be messing with the 'hold down' functions of the pedal (like undo/clear) though..

perhaps it's easier to try to find a looper with factory midi capabilities  :-\

nah, forget i said anything :-X
cause once you would have made a loop like suggested, playback would still be from the Boss' own internal clock - with a certain possibility of drift after a while, which kinda defeats the whole purpose. nevermind.

ideal would be to have the MIDIstream replace the pedal's clock... i wouldn't bother.

if its got tap tempo you could use a din sync clock divided down to close the switch with an optocoupler or something.
