mb33 mkII PWM and Distortion question
« on: November 01, 2016, 07:31:37 AM »

hi,
possible issue with PWM and Distortion on this mb33mkII which
was packed away/carted around for a while:

the volume drops off with the distortion, to around nothing at
the max end. is this normal? i don't recall it doing that. i don't
actually use it much, and a slight touch of it is all i'd consider
using anyway - could even get rid of it, as far as i'm concerned,
i could have something else in that position.

as for PWM - i could do without that too, i thought, but maybe in
a mix it could be useful. BUT what happens here is that at the
higher settings, the pulse and sub both disappear partially, which
sounds rubbish. i appreciate that it could happen with supershort
up cycle. doesn't seem normal, anyway.    ?:(

i've been driving this with a x0xbox, and it comes over a lot better
and more authentic than what i was doing with a DAW. the key is
to give it 32nd note lengths for regular notes without slide. i'd say
it lacks bottom end compared to the x0x, which is more rubbery
anyway. the mam sounds a bit more 'rigid'(?) but would make a good
2nd bassline part. and it's good for the darker, less identifiably
303 acidnesses.(so it is staying)

i think the square may be a bit too square compared to the Roland
one- what do you think? the saw is good and buzzy. i don't know
what happens with the original square as it goes up in pitch, i think the
PW narrows a bit, or the other way round. maybe there's some
shaping in there? also the wapp/wow/bark is not there, much, and i seem
to remember it being more present on the freebass383 i had before
(which honestly i think i enjoyed more)
also, the accent decay might be worth fiddling with.

i'm aiming to make it a bit more authentic before doing anything else to
it. isn't there a negative resonance feedback somewhere? i'm not
100% convinced by the x0x anyway, after hearing the BassBot next to it,
was really quite disappointing, even if the x0x has more range. the MAM
does some things very well, could fool a lot of people for a lot of its range
if you don't use sub+pwm.

also it is one octave higher than the x0x, it seems (?)
if i program in the (AcidTrax?) riff something weird happens, missed notes,
nothing like, but it's fine on other sequences.

so how about some of the x0xbox mods on it?
